Friday, September 25 After 6:30 PM Mass Holy Trinity Church
Vespers, or Evening Prayer, is part of the Liturgy of the Hours, the Church's daily prayer of psalms, Scripture, and intercession that hallows the hours of the day. Priests and deacons promise at ordination to pray it, and religious communities pray it together, but the Divine Office belongs to the whole Church, and every one of us is invited to pray it.
Come and keep our patronal solemnity of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels, with sung Vespers before the Blessed Sacrament, a reflection by Fr. Jacob Gruber, and Benediction. Booklets will be provided, and nothing is asked of you but to come and pray.
Spoken Vespers October 7, 14, 21, & 28, 2026
Spoken Vespers will be prayed on Wednesdays in October, following the 6:30 PM Mass at Holy Trinity Church, during our regularly scheduled evening Adoration. It takes about twenty minutes. Booklets will be provided.
There will be no choir and no incense, just booklets in our hands before the Blessed Sacrament and the psalms said out loud. That is exactly what it should be: sometimes with great fanfare, but other times, simple and ordinary. Saint Benedict called the Office the Opus Dei, the Work of God, and he meant the word “work.” It was never meant to be a spectacle a few times a year. It was meant to be daily, and ordinary, and faithful.
